Clan Rising
Kilchurn Castle on its loch at dusk — a past ready to be rewritten

Rewrite History

History happened one way. Yours doesn’t have to.

Alternate history, played from the inside. Change one moment and live in what follows, conquer the world your ancestors only defended, or design the castle they never got to build.

Points of divergence

Every what-if starts from what was.

The best alternate history grows out of real history — a real battle, a real family, a real stretch of coast. Start from your surname’s true record, then pull one thread and watch the tapestry rearrange.

Twist a real place

Or start from a place that stands.

Walk 1511 Edinburgh, Eilean Donan or HMS Victory as they really stood — then create your own version: the same coast, a different family, a castle history never built.

Alternate history — questions

What is alternate history?

Alternate history — sometimes called counterfactual history — asks what the world would look like if one real event had gone differently: a battle lost instead of won, a ship that never sailed, a marriage that never happened. On Clan Rising you don't just read the what-if, you play it, starting from the real history of your own family name.

How do I play an alternate history scenario?

Three ways in. Butterfly Effect: name a single divergence and live inside its compounding aftermath, turn by turn. World Conquest: raise your clan and take territory history never gave it. Create History: design your own castle, village or city as a photoreal walk — the place your family might have built.

Can I create my own castle?

Yes. Create History lets you pick a year from 1400 to 1945, a real region of Europe and your family name, then the artist builds a photoreal panorama walk of your castle, village or city — a place that belongs to you alone.

Do I need to know my family history first?

No — but it makes the what-ifs sharper. Look your surname up first and the scenarios start from your family's real region, seat and stories. You can also play as a stranger anywhere in Europe.
