A farm-name — moen, 'the meadow' or moor (from mo, a flat heath or sandy plain). The family of a farm on the level open ground.
The history of Moen
Moen is the level heath, the flat open ground that made good farmland, and the farm that stood on it carried the name. One more of the Norwegian gård-names that became hereditary surnames in the modern age, it is common across the country and through the Norwegian-American Midwest.
