Hanseatic Hamburg, 1450
Hamburg in 1450 is a prosperous Hanseatic port at the head of the Elbe, a compact walled town of brick gables, ringing spires and a maze of fleets and wharves. The walk follows arriving cogs and laden barges into the harbour, along the Alster fleets and market quays, past breweries, the town wall and the great churches to the open water and the Binnenalster skyline.
