The Saxon Citadel of Schäßburg, 1710

Schäßburg in 1710 is a living Saxon craftsmen's citadel perched above the Târnava Mare, its fortified wall ringed by guild towers and dominated by the tall Clock Tower with its baroque helm and turning figures. This walk leads from the river approach through the Clock Tower gate into the Citadel Square, past workshops, covered wooden steps and orchards to the Church on the Hill, where the town spreads like a patchwork of ember-coloured roofs.
