Monastery of Saint John of Rila
Rila Monastery (Monastery of Saint John of Rila) is the largest and best-known Eastern Orthodox monastery in Bulgaria, set in a rectangular complex around a large inner courtyard in the Rila Mountains. The site centres on a mid-19th-century main church with five domes, the medieval Tower of Hrelja, multi-storey residential arcades, and a museum and library housing important religious artefacts and manuscripts.
