Olympia
Olympia is an ancient religious sanctuary and the site of the original ancient Olympic Games, located in the valley of the Alfeiós River in the Peloponnese, Greece. The archaeological precinct (the Altis) contained temples, treasuries, athletic facilities and cult monuments clustered within a wooded enclosure.

A broad, grassy valley punctuated by weathered limestone and marble platforms, low curbs and circular stone bases; scattered fluted column drums and a few freestanding fluted columns support fragmentary entablature. The site is broken into rectilinear building platforms and stepped foundations with open-ground passages between them, shaded by plane and olive trees and backed by a stand of pines; light falls sharply across worn stone, revealing tool marks and erosion.
