Philippi

Philippi is an ancient Macedonian city founded as Crenides and renamed by Philip II; it later became a Roman colony and an early Christian centre. The archaeological site preserves a compact Roman urban layout with a theatre, a two-terraced forum, several large basilicas and episcopal buildings, fortifications and an associated necropolis.
