Ostrog monastery
Ostrog Monastery is a Serbian Orthodox monastery built into a near-vertical limestone cliff in Montenegro, composed of an Upper and Lower monastery. The Upper Monastery contains two cave-churches (the Church of the Presentation and the Church of the Holy Cross) that house the relics of Saint Basil of Ostrog and painted fresco surfaces; the Lower Monastery centres on the Church of the Holy Trinity and monastic residences.

A multi-level whitewashed monastic complex wedged into a sheer ochre-brown limestone cliff: flat-walled, rectilinear residences and arcaded galleries step up the rock face, punctured by narrow square and tall arched windows and small balconies with black wrought-iron railings. Two cave-church openings break the cliff itself; a simple bell arch with suspended bells and a small pitched-roof tower topped by a cross rise against the stone. The white buildings contrast sharply with the raw textured rock and painted crosses on the cliff.
