What Tešanj Castle looked like in its prime.
Perched on a steep rocky ridge above the town, the fortress describes an irregular, elongated plan of pale stone curtain walls arranged in terraces down the slope. Two prominent round towers punctuate the ramparts — a lower, stout circular tower with a conical roof and a taller cylindrical tower at the summit — linked by stepped outer walls and winding defensive terraces. The inner summit is enclosed by higher curtain walls forming an inner bailey; the whole complex presents a layered silhouette against wooded hills.
