Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg
Château du Haut-Koenigsbourg is a medieval hilltop castle in Orschwiller, Alsace, located on a Buntsandstein rocky spur above the Upper Rhine Plain. Rebuilt between 1900 and 1908 under Kaiser Wilhelm II, it today appears as a fully restored fortified complex with a dominant central square keep, extensive curtain walls and multiple round and square towers.

The shape it held in its prime.
Perched on a Buntsandstein rocky spur in the Vosges overlooking the Upper Rhine Plain, Haut-Koenigsbourg presents a compact complex of pink sandstone curtain walls, crenellations and a mixture of square and round towers. A central tall square keep capped by a green-patinated copper hipped roof dominates the skyline; several round towers with conical slate roofs anchor the curtain. Densely packed roofs of red tile and dark slate fill the inner wards. At its prime the stronghold is fully intact, with continuous ramparts and gatehouses.
