Clan Rising

Strategy · real castles

Defend a real castle, wave after wave.

You are the general on the walls. Post your finite garrison across the castle’s real surveyed ground plan, sound the horn, and hold out against an assault that grows worse every wave — ladders, rams, siege towers, trebuchets, sappers. Lose a man and he’s gone for good. The score is how long you last.

How it plays

  1. 1

Take command of a real castle

The map is the castle's true ground plan — walls, towers, gate and keep from the surveyed record, cliffs where the cliffs really are.

  2. 2

    Post your garrison

You get a finite garrison, sized to the castle. Between assaults, place archers on the battlements, crossbows in the towers, men-at-arms at the gate — or let Auto-deploy set a sensible line.

  3. 3

    Hold the walls

Sound the horn and the wave comes on. Your men fight automatically; you watch the battle unfold, pause it, or run it at double speed.

  4. 4

    Survive the escalation

Wave one is archers. Then ladders, rams and fire arrows — then trebuchets that breach your walls, siege towers that dock on them, and sappers tunnelling under your towers. The men you lose never come back.

A real castle’s real walls

First to hold the line: Stirling Castle.

The launch castle is Stirling Castle, the most besieged fortress in Scotland — its curtain wall, towers, gatehouse, Great Hall and Nether Bailey placed exactly where the survey puts them. The crag guards the west and north faces, so the assault comes up the esplanade the way every real one did. More castles join the roster from the castle atlas as their ground plans are surveyed.

What makes it bite

The real layout matters

Stirling's crag protects three sides; the assault funnels up the esplanade, exactly as history forced it to. Every breach permanently reshapes the ground you defend.

Big siege engines

Trebuchets smash wall sections into climbable rubble, siege towers disgorge men straight onto your battlements, rams batter the gate, sappers drop whole towers.

Roguelike tension

Casualties persist between waves. A perfect wave costs you almost nothing; a breach costs you a squad. How long can the same garrison last?

Yours forever

Questions

How much does Castle Siege cost?
Each castle costs 150 Clan Coins and is yours forever once bought. A Clan Rising subscription includes 500 coins a month — enough for about three castles — and a one-off US$4.99 coin pouch (200 coins) covers one castle with change left over.
Do I keep my castles if I cancel my subscription?
Yes. Coins buy castles outright, however the coins arrived. A cancelled subscription stops new coins, it never takes back a castle you hold.
Is the castle layout really real?
Yes — the walls, towers, gatehouse and keep are drawn from the castle's real surveyed footprint (OpenStreetMap ground plans, cross-checked against 19th-century measured surveys), the same geometry shown on its atlas page.
Is it a tower defense game?
It plays like endless tower defense crossed with a wargame: you place a finite garrison between waves rather than building towers, your men fight automatically, and the attackers escalate forever. The score is how many waves you hold.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes. It runs in any modern browser — tap to place squads, pinch to zoom, and watch the assault play out.
