The shape it held in its prime.

A long fortified palace mass with low rectangular wings and a prominent, tall square donjon of pale ashlar at its centre; curtain walls of rough uncut stone and brick coated with lime and traces of paint; arcaded ground gallery and rows of paired Gothic windows with red stone surrounds; roofline set behind straight parapets and small tower silhouettes; formal terraced gardens and palm trees slope away from the south-facing forecourt overlooking the city.
