A low, rectangular grey-stone main block with three steep gabled roof bays on the left and a deep recessed round-arched entrance at ground level beneath a tall arched window; to the right a taller, multi-storey castellated tower with battlements and a cylindrical turret rises above the main roofline. Walls are coursed grey masonry with regularly spaced rectangular sash windows; the building stands on terraced lawns on raised ground overlooking the River Suck and is finished in dressed stone.

Donamon Castle — properly Dunamon, Dún Iomáin — stands on raised ground overlooking the River Suck in County Roscommon and is one of the oldest inhabited buildings in Ireland. It was the seat of the Ó Fionnachta chiefs of Clann Chonnmhaigh, one of the two main branches of that Connacht family.
During the seventeenth century a junior branch of the Caulfeild family came to own the castle and its surrounding territory, and held it throughout the Protestant Ascendancy. Continuously reused and altered across the centuries, the castle today presents a compact rectangular main block with a taller castellated tower and a round turret.
