Tandragee Castle
Tandragee Castle is a 19th-century reconstruction on the site of an earlier stronghold in Tandragee, County Armagh. The present building was rebuilt in 1837 by George Montagu, 6th Duke of Manchester and today houses offices with the surrounding demesne in parkland use.

Long, horizontal gray‑stone house with castle detailing, seen from across parkland and partially framed by mature trees; a crenellated central block with a steep slate roof and a prominent stepped gable dominates the silhouette. Multiple tall rectangular chimney stacks rise along the ridgelines. Projecting square towers and a cylindrical tower with a domed cap appear on the right; walls are dressed ashlar stone and the roofs are pitched and slate‑covered, complete and occupied in 1837.

Tandragee began as a stronghold of the O'Hanlon clan. During the Plantation of Ulster it became the property of Sir Oliver St John, Lord Deputy of Ireland, who rebuilt it; when the O'Hanlons tried to regain their lands in the Irish Rebellion of 1641, the castle was ruined, and it stayed so for two hundred years.
The estate descended through the Sparrow family until Millicent Sparrow's 1822 marriage to George Montagu, 6th Duke of Manchester, who rebuilt the castle in 1837 as the family's Irish home. Four further Dukes of Manchester followed; Alexander, the 10th Duke, was born at Tandragee and left in 1928.
In 1943 the castle was leased to the United States Army, and General George S. Patton is reported to have visited while inspecting troops in Northern Ireland. In the 1950s the 10th Duke sold the estate to Thomas Hutchinson, a Tandragee businessman who founded Tayto; the castle now houses offices.
