Grodziec Castle
Grodziec Castle is a medieval fortress on a wooded hill in Silesia, Poland, with origins recorded from 1155 and major Gothic‑Renaissance rebuilding around the late 15th century. Over time it was damaged in war and partly reconstructed; today the site combines preserved and ruined sections and houses a museum and visitor facilities. The castle's visible fabric includes a tall square keep, a conical tower, curtain walls and an arched main gate.

Perched on a wooded hill, the castle forms a compact silhouette of dark masonry curtain walls punctuated by a tall rectangular keep tower to the right and a steep conical-roofed tower to the left, with red-tiled roofs behind the walls. The main entrance is an arched gateway in the curtain with a short wooden approach bridge; crenellations and narrow vertical window slits march along the battlements. In its prime the entire complex is fully roofed and continuous along the ridge.

Grodziec Castle, on a wooded hill in Silesia, has a recorded history reaching back to 1155. In the 14th and partly the 15th centuries it was the property of the knightly family of Busewoy, and around the late 15th century it was rebuilt in Gothic-Renaissance style — the tall square keep, conical tower, curtain walls and arched main gate remain its visible fabric today.
War damage left the fortress with parts of the stronghold missing, and the site now combines preserved and ruined sections, housing a museum and visitor facilities. It also gathered an unusual treasure: 32 stained-glass panes acquired by the Swiss art dealer Martin Usteri in 1796 were installed at Gröditzberg after their sale from his legacy in 1829 — six of them, from the Augustinian monastery in Zürich, were bought back by the Gottfried Keller Foundation in 1894 and are now on deposit with the Swiss National Museum.
