La Jument
Phare de la Jument
La Jument is a granite lighthouse erected on the rock called La Jument about 300 metres off Ushant, Brittany, to mark the dangerous Fromveur passage. Built between 1904 and 1911, the tower sits on a circular armored plinth rising from the sea, carries a red lantern room and gallery, and was manned until automation in 1991. It is listed as a historic monument.

A tall, tapering cylindrical granite tower rising from a squat cylindrical concrete-and-granite plinth, its lower stone darkened by sea staining and spray. Narrow vertical rows of small rectangular windows march up the shaft to an encircling iron-wrought gallery and a domed red lantern room with a rim gallery and rail. The stone is pale grey, textured by tooling and weather; the lantern dome and rail are painted bright red, and a single narrow entrance sits just above the waterline on the plinth.
