Sybaris
Sybaris was an important ancient Greek city on the Gulf of Taranto in what is now Calabria, Italy. Founded in the early 8th century BC, it grew wealthy on fertile land and maritime trade before being destroyed and later overlain by successor cities; parts of the buried urban grid and building foundations are visible in the present excavated site.
