City of Arts and Sciences

The City of Arts and Sciences is a late-20th / early-21st century cultural and architectural complex in Valencia, Spain, containing museums, an opera house, an IMAX/planetarium, an oceanographic park, landscaped promenades and bridges. The complex groups a series of white-curved concrete and steel structures set along shallow reflecting pools and a linear pedestrian axis on the drained Turia riverbed.

The shape it held in its prime.

A long, linear complex of gleaming white curving concrete shells and steel ribs set along broad shallow reflecting pools and paved promenades. Key silhouettes: an elongated half‑sphere with a glass eyelid, a ribbed 'skeleton' museum volume, a feathered metallic opera shell, and arched walkways framed by repeated white arches; surfaces are smooth white concrete, glass curtain walls and steel, with water mirrors and planted terraces.
