Dajti Castle
Dajti Castle is the traces of a small hilltop fortification on the wooded slopes of Mount Dajti near Tirana, Albania. Today the site is largely overgrown and survives only as rocky terraces and scattered masonry hidden beneath trees and leaf litter.

Perched on a steep pale-grey limestone crag above dense beech and birch woodland, the castle in its prime was a compact stone stronghold whose low irregular curtain wall followed the natural terraces of the outcrop. Walls built of local pale limestone rose only a few metres above the rock, punctuated by a single small masonry tower at the highest point and simple timber roofs; surrounding slopes were wooded and steep, with narrow approach paths.

Dajti Castle is a 1.12-hectare archaeological site at 1,200 metres on the west side of Mount Dajti, close to Tirana — the ruins of a Roman fortification and several dwellings of late antiquity, probably built over Illyrian foundations. Analysis of the walls shows two construction phases: large quadrangular stone blocks laid dry, suggesting an earlier Illyrian castle, and smaller unworked stones bound with mortar from the later Roman period.
The triangular circuit of walls follows the sloping terrain for 550 metres, 2.3 metres thick, with a tower at each vertex — the southern one circular, 7.3 metres in outer diameter — and a transverse wall dividing off a small acropolis at the northern end. Discovered in 1963, the site was inscribed in the list of the Cultural Monuments of Albania, and a three-year project of restoration, archaeological survey and visitor infrastructure began in 2008.
