Fortress of Doboj
Doboj Fortress is a large medieval stone fortress crowning a rocky promontory above the town of Doboj in northern Bosnia and Herzegovina. Built from the early 13th century and substantially rebuilt in 1415, it has a triangular inner core, multiple concentric curtain walls and several flanking towers including a tall square five‑storey donjon. The site is well preserved and protected as a national cultural monument.

A multi-tiered light-grey stone fortress sited on a rocky hill with stepped curtain walls and terraces; a triangular inner citadel is surrounded by at least two concentric enceintes. A dominant square, five-storey donjon with a perfectly square base and a timbered upper level rises above the eastern curtain. Three large flanking towers (Northern, Eastern, and the Southern gate tower, the latter rounded) punctuate the walls; ramparts, a raised plateau/bastion, and a Ragusan-built cistern occupy the upper fort.

Official records count the fortress burned and ransacked at least eighteen times.
The fortress was a royal property of the Kotromanić dynasty — unlike Grand Duke Hrvoje's Zvečaj or Sandalj Hranić's Blagaj, which were the centres of their holders' own duchies. In early August 1415 the Bosnian nobility, commanded by Grand Duke Hrvoje Vukčić Hrvatinić in coalition with Ottoman forces under Isa-Beg, fought the Hungarians at the Battle of Doboj. The site is well preserved today and protected as a national cultural monument.
