The shape it held in its prime.
A rectangular, stone-built semi-fortified manor with crenellated parapets and several square towers grouped around a central block; the main block rises two to three storeys with a larger, battlemented central tower flying a flag. The eastern range includes tall Perpendicular mullioned windows (the chapel side), and the west wall shows an Elizabethan chimney dated 1587. The castle sits at the village edge with low farm buildings abutting the curtain and cultivated gardens/allotments in the foreground, coursed pale-grey ashlar stonework and slate roofs.
