The shape it held in its prime.
Perched on a narrow sandstone summit, the castle runs roughly 52 metres along the rock in a long, boat-like plan; vertical rock faces drop away on several sides. Remaining masonry includes a tall, rectangular well tower, a stair-tower rising from the rock, low stretches of curtain wall and scattered ruined buildings linked to the bedrock. Stone is local pinkish sandstone, with rock-cut steps, troglodyte rooms and an open summit platform surrounded by forested slopes.
