A castle was first built on the site around 1619 by a Scottish planter called Gerard Lowther, and the estate long carried the alternative name Castle Irvine. The present Victorian gothic house near Irvinestown, County Fermanagh took shape when its two-storey façade, designed by John Benjamin Keane, was completed in 1835.
In the 1990s the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs signed a 25-year lease on the property to run it as an equine training centre, which continued until 2023. The house stands back from a wide lawn on open parkland, its symmetrical stone front finished with battlemented parapets and small corner towers.
