The Castello di Santa Margherita Ligure is a 16th‑century coastal fortress in Santa Margherita Ligure, built in 1550 by the Republic of Genoa to defend the port. It stands at the foot of a hill beside the harbour and is integrated into the town waterfront. The building was later restored and is preserved as a historic monument.

Compact stone fortress of irregular grey masonry rising directly from a rocky seafront quay, with a squat cylindrical keep-like tower at one corner topped by a flagpole. A low curtain wall extends along the waterfront with small rectangular embrasures and two projecting cylindrical guard turrets with domed caps on the corners. Walkable ramparts and a stone base with a ground-level entrance connect the fort to adjacent ochre-painted town buildings and the hill behind.

The castle was built in 1550 by decree of the Senate of the Republic of Genoa to defend Santa Margherita against Saracen pirate raids, to a design by Antonio de Càrabo — the same engineer who built Rapallo's castle the following year. Works began and were completed within the year, on the shore below the hill of the Villa Durazzo.
Its armament was strengthened into the early 17th century, but from the 1700s, with the pirate raids over, the fort lost military purpose and received only maintenance. It twice escaped demolition in the 19th century — once for a new town hall, once to enlarge the adjacent quay — and after the First World War was restored and dedicated to the memory of the fallen.
