Donnafugata Castle

Donnafugata Castle is a Neo‑Gothic and Neoclassical country house near Ragusa in Sicily, whose present appearance dates mainly to 19th‑century remodelling. The building is characterised by a long pale stone façade punctuated by Gothic pointed windows and a columned loggia with trilobed arches. It stands within an estate landscape and is a preserved, visitable historic residence.

The shape it held in its prime.

A long, rectilinear pale stone or stuccoed main block with a crenellated parapet and a raised, paved terrace running along the façade; a prominent Gothic Revival loggia of slender columns and trilobed arches sits on the principal elevation. A regular rhythm of tall pointed-arch windows and doors with carved tracery punctuates the wall. Low stone balustrades with classical urns line the terrace; a small square stair-turret or corner tower anchors one end. Trees and parkland sit close by.
