Grodno Castle — Kynsburg in German — stands on the Choina Mountain at 450 metres above the river Bystrzyca, whose valley, once called the Silesian Valley, divides the Owl Mountains from the Wałbrzych Mountains near Zagórze Śląskie in Lower Silesia. According to tradition the castle was built in 1193 by Duke Bolesław I the Tall.
The medieval hill castle is marked by a prominent tower and a 16th-century gatehouse with sgraffito decoration. Its last owners were the Zedlitz family, who continued renovation works and strengthened the castle; below, the dammed Lubachowskie Lake in the foothills heightens the picturesque setting.
