Castro Marim is a medieval hilltop fortress in the Algarve, Portugal, with an irregular triangular outer enceinte and an inner rectangular castle. The site contains battlemented curtain walls, cylindrical corner towers, a barbican/gate with sculpted arms and carved inscriptions, an inner courtyard with a chapel and cisterns, and views over the nearby marshes and the mouth of the Guadiana River.

A compact, trapezoid inner castle set within an irregular triangular outer enceinte of pale beige stone and mortar; curtain walls topped by battlemented merlons, with four cylindrical towers at the inner enclosure's corners and low rectangular towers on the east and west flanks. A prominent barbican/gate with an arched doorway and carved heraldic stone frames entry. Rooflines include tiled conical caps on corner towers and two-storey buildings clustered against the inner walls; an open longitudinal courtyard contains shelters and cistern openings. The site sits on a hill above marshes and the Guadiana mouth.

The Castle of Castro Marim crowns a hilltop in the eastern Algarve, overlooking the salt marshes and the mouth of the Guadiana River. It was part of the defensive line controlled by the Knights Templar, a stronghold used during the Portuguese Reconquista, and was later adapted during the Restoration War to defend the frontier.
Two inscriptions are carved within the fortification. The first, from 1274, records the settlement of Castro Marim by King Afonso III, the first inscription to record a settlement established by a Portuguese monarch, cut into sandstone beneath the coat of arms of Portugal; the second marks alterations made under the reign of King Denis.
The outer enceinte forms an irregular triangle ringed by battlements, with low rectangular towers east and west. On the north wall stands the old castle, a roughly rectangular enclosure with four cylindrical corner towers. Within the walls are the Church of Santiago and, behind a veil of walls, the Fort of São Sebastião; the whole sits inside the Marsh Nature Reserve of Castro Marim.
