The shape it held in its prime.
A compact Z-plan three-storey towerhouse of pale grey stone with two projecting towers: a prominent round stair-tower topped by a small conical cap and a taller, more rectangular tower with a crenellated parapet. A long three-storey domestic range with steep slate roofs and dormer windows extends to one side, with later Scots Baronial turrets and gabled additions visible along the roofline. The castle sits in managed parkland with lawns and mature deciduous trees.
