Pidhirtsi Castle
Pidhirtsi Castle is a 17th-century palazzo in fortezza near Pidhirtsi, Lviv Oblast, Ukraine, built 1635–1640 as a residential castle-fortress and later enlarged. It combines a rectangular three-storey palace set into a raised stone bastioned platform with baroque roof cupolas and terraces; the complex served as a grand noble residence and defensive stronghold. Today it is owned by the Lviv National Art Gallery and remains partly ruined and undergoing slow restoration.

The shape it held in its prime.
A three-storey, nearly square palazzo set into a massive raised stone bastion, its pale plastered masonry and rusticated stone base built into a hillside; a long facade of regularly spaced tall rectangular windows with classical surrounds; low pitched metal roofs pierced by ornate baroque cupolas — one dark spire and one green-topped bulbous tower — balustraded terraces and a broad arched arcade at the base facing a river valley and meadow; moat and fortified walls enclose the platform.
