St Brides Castle

A two- and four-storey castellated mansion of grey rubble stone with red sandstone additions, under slate roofs. The silhouette shows multiple crenellated parapets, square and a prominent round tower with a corbelled top, tall vertically proportioned windows and a projecting red-sandstone bay. The façades are pierced by regular sash windows and some ivy; the house sits back from an open lawn framed by mature trees and specimen planting, rooflines stepped by the differing storey heights.

St Brides Castle is a 19th-century castellated mansion in baronial style in the parish of St Brides, Pembrokeshire, its rubble-stone walls carrying red sandstone additions, crenellated parapets and towers within designed lawns and gardens. The house was acquired by the 5th Baron Kensington in 1899 and enlarged between 1905 and 1913 for the 6th Baron, who sold it in 1920.
The historian Nikolaus Pevsner suggested the architect may have been Thomas Rowlands, and described the early-20th-century expansion for Lord Kensington as "the last major country house work in Pembrokeshire". The house was converted to institutional use in the 20th century, and later into holiday apartments.
