Fort Vaux is a late 19th-century polygonal Séré de Rivières fort near Verdun, built of masonry and later encased in thick reinforced concrete. It formed part of the Verdun ring of forts and contains deep underground galleries, casemates and a concrete caserne able to house its garrison. The underground installations survive and the fort is open to guided visits.

A low, polygonal military fort of cut masonry faced with a heavy reinforced-concrete carapace, set into an earthen glacis and surrounded by dry ditches. The flat concrete roof carries an armoured circular 75 mm gun turret and small steel observation cupolas; flanking casemates are set into the ramparts. Narrow concrete-lined galleries and a vaulted concrete caserne lie beneath the roof. The site sits in open grassy fields with paths along the outer earthworks.
