Temple of Apollo in Delphi
The Temple of Apollo at Delphi was the principal sanctuary building within the Panhellenic religious sanctuary on Mount Parnassus, dedicated to the god Apollo. The visible ruins are of the fifth/final temple phase rebuilt in the 4th century BCE and served as the location of the oracle (the Pythia) and related sacred chambers until the temple's closure in late antiquity.

Perched on a sloping terrace cut into limestone bedrock, the temple presents a rectilinear stone platform with the remains of a six-by-fifteen column peristyle (some columns in Parian white marble, others truncated), stepped bases, and a broad pronaos leading to an inner cella. Low polygonal masonry retaining walls enclose the terrace; carved pediment blocks and scattered architectural fragments lie across the paved floor. The site faces a steep olive-covered valley and rugged mountain ridges under open sky.
