Brú na Bóinne

Brú na Bóinne is a large Neolithic ritual landscape in a bend of the River Boyne in County Meath, Ireland, containing many passage tombs, burial mounds, standing stones and henges. The complex is dominated by the passage tombs of Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth, which contain extensive megalithic art and astronomical alignments.

What Brú na Bóinne looked like in its prime.

A broad, low, grass-covered circular mound over 100 metres in diameter sits on a river peninsula, ringed by a bright band of white quartz and cobbles at its base and punctured by a dark, rectangular stone entrance. Large upright standing stones and kerbstones stand near the forecourt; the grassy dome is smooth and even, the kerb a stark pale band against weathered dark orthostats at the entry. Other similar mounds are visible along the river bend.
