Parliament Buildings

Parliament Buildings (Stormont) is a purpose‑built neoclassical parliament building on the Stormont Estate in Belfast, opened in 1932 as the seat of the Parliament of Northern Ireland. The ashlar‑stone complex contains a ceremonial Great Hall, two rectangular debating chambers (the House of Commons and the Senate) and formal approach lawns and drives.

What Parliament Buildings looked like in its prime.

A wide, symmetrical neoclassical block of pale ashlar (Portland) stone rising four storeys, dominated by a central projecting portico of six giant columns supporting a triangular pediment with relief. Broad formal lawns slope up to a wide, ceremonial flight of stone steps and a triple-doored entrance beneath the pediment; regular rows of sash windows and a low parapet run the facade. Inside, a vaulted Great Hall contains a large gold-plated chandelier and formal imperial staircases leading to the debating chambers.
