Lansdowne Road

Bóthar Lansdún

Lansdowne Road Stadium was a rugby- and association-football stadium in the Ballsbridge area of Dublin, owned by the Irish Rugby Football Union. First used from the 1870s, by the 2000s it comprised covered East and West stands and large standing terraces at both ends; it was demolished in 2007 and replaced on the same site by the Aviva Stadium.

What Lansdowne Road looked like in its prime.

A rectangular grass pitch with tall rugby goalposts sits in a compact bowl of concrete terraces and seated banks. The West Stand is a large steel-framed covered stand rising above a rail cutting; the opposite side has a covered East Stand added in 1983. North and South ends are standing terraces of poured concrete. Four tall floodlight pylons punctuate the skyline, and low-rise Dublin streets and the Lansdowne Road rail cutting closely back onto the ground.
