Slane Castle
Slane Castle is an 18th-century country-house-style castle on the River Boyne in County Meath, Ireland, and has been the Conyngham family seat since its rebuilding in the late 18th century. The present main block is a castellated stone mansion set within extensive demesne grounds that slope down towards the Boyne.

Rectangular, three-storey grey-stone block with a crenellated parapet running along the roofline and prominent square corner towers; narrow vertical slit windows punctuate the tower faces while larger sash and traceried windows appear on the main elevations. A projecting curved bay with tracery sits on the river-facing front. Low stone boundary walls with battered coping enclose the forecourt and lawns that sweep down to the river valley. The entrance is set into a recessed arched opening on the west side.

Before the overthrow of the House of Stuart in 1688, Slane was held by the Flemings, Hiberno-Normans; Christopher, 17th Baron Slane (1669–1726), created Viscount Longford by Queen Anne in 1713, was the last Fleming Lord of Slane. The property was taken by the Conyngham family following the Williamite Confiscations in 1701, with land first purchased in 1703 by Brig.-Gen. Henry Conyngham.
The Conynghams, an Ulster-Scots family planted in County Donegal in 1611 during the Plantation of Ulster, moved their main seat south from Donegal to Slane around that time. The present castle was built in the late 18th century and has been the family seat ever since; the current owner is Alexander, 9th Marquess Conyngham.
The demesne, whose grounds form a natural amphitheatre sloping to the Boyne, hosts the famous Slane concerts, launched by the then Earl of Mount Charles (1951–2025). On the eastward side lie the ruins of St. Erc's Hermitage, a 15th-century chapel, and an ancient well linked in the Cath Maige Tuireadh to the healing of the Tuatha Dé Danann, now known as Our Lady's Well.
