Lismore Castle
Lismore Castle is a large castellated country house on a wooded bluff above the River Blackwater in Lismore, County Waterford, Ireland. The site dates to a Norman 1185 fortification but the present skyline is largely the mid-19th-century Gothic rebuilding by the Cavendish family. It remains a private residence with extensive walled and informal gardens.

The shape it held in its prime.
A long, crenellated stone castle set high on a steep, tree-clad riverbank, composed of several connected three- and four-storey ashlar ranges and tall square towers with battlemented parapets and a round turreted stair tower. The stone is pale grey cut-stone; window openings are regularly spaced mullioned and sash types; numerous chimneys punctuate the roofline. A gatehouse and fortified outer wall run along part of the frontage, and terraced gardens descend toward the River Blackwater beneath the cliffs.
