Pontifical basilica of the Holy House of Loreto

The Basilica della Santa Casa in Loreto is a Marian shrine built around the preserved three-walled 'Holy House' and a larger Late Gothic–to–Baroque basilica complex. The site combines a pilgrimage chapel containing the Santa Casa with a richly decorated church, campanile, sacristies and a treasury hall, and has been a major Catholic pilgrimage destination since the later Middle Ages.

What Pontifical basilica of the Holy House of Loreto looked like in its prime.

A broad open parvis paved in stone centers on a multi-tiered fountain with bronze figures before a tall, pale white stone Baroque façade with a triangular pediment, statues and paired doorways; to the left runs a long two-storey brick arcade of repeated rounded arches and pilasters, to the right a sober brick palace. A high cylindrical campanile with an open belfry and bulbous dome rises above the left side; clear blue sky frames the composition.
