Basilica of Maxentius

The Basilica of Maxentius was a vast Roman civic basilica on the north side of the Roman Forum, begun under Maxentius and completed in 312. It featured a very large central nave covered by groin vaults, flanking aisles with barrel vaults, and a western apse that held a colossal statue of Constantine.

What Basilica of Maxentius looked like in its prime.

A colossal whitewashed rectangular mass on a raised concrete platform, its central nave spanning roughly 80 by 25 metres beneath three immense groin vaults terminating in a western apse. Gigantic semi-circular arches pierce the long façades, with a tetrastyle porch on the south face and a projecting arcade along the east. Marble columns (eight at the nave corners) and a folded roof system occupied the interior; flanking aisles were covered by perpendicular barrel vaults with coffering.
