Saeftinghe
Saeftinghe was a medieval polder town and abbey settlement in eastern Zeelandic Flanders that was lost to the sea in the 16th century and today lies as the Drowned Land of Saeftinghe, a tidal marsh and nature reserve. At its prime it consisted of low clustered farmhouses, an abbey complex and a nearby castle at the edge of the Scheldt estuary.

Buildings are small and horizontal, set behind earthen dikes with narrow drainage channels and reed-lined muddy foreshore; surrounding land is strip-fields of grass and pasture against a wide estuary sky.
