Dagnum
Dagnum (Albanian Danjë/Dejë) was a medieval town and hilltop fortress near the modern town of Vau i Dejës in northern Albania. It was contested by local lords, Venice and the Ottoman Empire during the 14th–15th centuries; Ottoman forces later destroyed its fortifications. The surviving site is a ruined stone stronghold perched above the Drin river/reservoir with fragmentary walls and terraces.

Perched on a rocky promontory above a narrow river gorge (now a reservoir), the fortress consisted of pale grey, roughly coursed limestone rubble curtain walls and terraced enclosures that follow the slope of the hill. Low stony ramparts and sub-dividing dry-stone partitions enclose irregular courtyards; paths and stepped terraces trace the contours of the crag. The silhouette is low and irregular, hugging the cliff edge with the broad river valley and distant mountains beyond.

Dagnum — Danjë in Albanian — was a medieval town, bishopric and important fortress on the territory of present-day Albania, close to the modern town of Vau i Dejës, and passed under Albanian, Serbian, Venetian and Ottoman control in turn. The Ragusan-Serbian peace treaty was signed here on 25 March 1326, attended by the vojvoda Mladen and the čelnik Đuraš Ilijić.
Captured in 1396, Dagnum became the seat of a lord who proclaimed himself 'dominus Sabatensis et Dagnensis' — Lord of Sati and Dagnum. Its later lord Lekë Zaharia, a member of the Albanian League of Lezhë, fell into dispute with fellow member Nikollë Dukagjini over who should marry Irene Dushmani, only child of Lekë Dushmani, prince of Zadrima. Ottoman forces later destroyed the fortifications, leaving the ruined stone stronghold perched above the Drin.
