Bouillon Castle
Bouillon Castle is a medieval fortress on a rocky spur within a sharp bend of the Semois River above the town of Bouillon, in southern Belgium. The present complex shows medieval walls and towers that were later adapted for artillery in the 17th century and today survives as a restored fortification and museum.

The shape it held in its prime.
A long, linear stone fortress built along a rocky spur inside a pronounced river bend, with continuous grey-brown curtain walls punctuated by multiple round and rectangular towers. A broad, steep-roofed, rectangular building sits within the walls; two large cylindrical bastions and an arched stone bridge mark the seaward flank. The walls follow the contour of the crag, with parapets and walkways visible, and dense wooded hills rise immediately behind the castle.
