Ilok Castle
Ilok Castle (Odescalchi Castle) is a hilltop castle complex overlooking the town of Ilok and the Danube in eastern Croatia. Built from the 15th century and substantially altered in the 18th century by the Odescalchi family, the lower floors now house the Town of Ilok museum and famous castle wine cellars. The complex has been restored and opened to visitors in the 21st century.

Compact hilltop cluster of brick buildings and red-tiled roofs dominated by a tall, rectangular clock tower with a steep dark slate spire and white clock face; an adjacent large brick gabled façade with sculpted niches and a painted panel above an entrance; thick rough-stone curtain wall with regular corbelled projections on the lower slope; lower ranges stepping down the hillside toward the town and views opening to the Danube and the Pannonian Plain.

Ilok Castle rises on a hill above the town of Ilok in eastern Croatia, with views over the Danube and the Pannonian Plain. It was originally built in the 15th century by Nicholas of Ilok, Croatian viceroy and king of Bosnia, before the Ottomans conquered Ilok in the 16th century.
After the victory over the Ottomans at the Battle of Vienna in 1683, Emperor Leopold I granted the castle, significant properties and the title of Duke of Syrmia to Livio Odescalchi, nephew of Pope Innocent XI, and the powerful Italian aristocratic Odescalchi family owned it for the next two centuries, reconstructing the castle in Baroque style in the 18th century.
Yugoslav authorities nationalised the castle in 1945. After restoration it opened to visitors in 2010; the lower two floors house the Museum of the Town of Ilok, and the castle's wine cellars are among the most famous in Croatia.
