Špilberk Castle
Špilberk Castle is a hilltop medieval royal castle in Brno, Southern Moravia that was expanded and converted over centuries into a fortified citadel and state prison. It later served as barracks and since 1960 has housed the Brno City Museum. The complex combines high plastered curtain walls, a compact cluster of red‑tiled roofs and a prominent white tower above brick bastions.

The shape it held in its prime.
Perched on a low hill, the castle reads as a compact mass of white‑washed curtain walls rising from a brick bastion base, pierced by a long row of rectangular windows and a taller range with three tall pointed‑arch windows; steep, red clay tile roofs cap most ranges. A squat white tower with a conical red roof stands at one corner. An arched gate through the curtain wall provides the main approach from the town below.
