The shape it held in its prime.
Perched on a wooded rocky promontory above the Svratka River, the compound's silhouette centers on a tall cylindrical keep with a high conical tiled roof and small bell turret; a multi-storey rectangular palace block with steep red-tiled roofs adjoins the keep, flanked by several lower service wings and towers. Curtain walls and outer wards step down the slope; plastered masonry in pale tones contrasts with the red roofscape. Approaches include a bridge and a formal southern gate leading into a series of courtyards.
