The shape it held in its prime.
Broad rectangular central keep rises from a high masonry plinth of rough granite boulders, its lower tiers stone and upper tiers red brick. The keep is capped by steep dark pyramidal roofs and in its prime carried five turrets (two visible in the photo). A continuous brick curtain wall with battlements, a gatehouse, an octagonal brick corner turret and a round gun turret encloses a moated island setting on the shore of Lake Vanajavesi.
