Castle of Eger
Eger Castle (Egri vár) is a medieval hilltop fortress in Eger, Hungary, famous for its defence during the 1552 Ottoman siege. The site contains multiple museum spaces today, including the Dobó István Vármúzeum and the kazamaták (cellars), and retains large stretches of its pale limestone curtain walls, towers and ramparts.

The shape it held in its prime.
A broad, pale limestone curtain wall built of irregular ashlar blocks rises from a cobbled approach and grassy glacis, punctured by small rectangular loopholes and larger window openings; a steep, tiled roofed tower with a pointed gable and flying banners projects above a covered timber hoarding; ivy climbs one flank of the wall; a field cannon sits on the lawn beside the curving paved path leading into the castle interior.
