The shape it held in its prime.
A compact 16th-century stone tower house dominated by a single rectangular 75-foot (23 m) keep rising within an enclosing defensive wall on the shore of Galway Bay near Kinvara. Built of local rubble stone, the tower projects above a low curtain wall that defines a small enclosed ward opening toward the sea; at its prime the tower and surrounding wall were intact and roofed, presenting a solid vertical silhouette against the bay.
