Castello Nelson
Castello di Maniace (also called Castello Nelson or Castello Bronte) is a manor house on the site of the former Benedictine Abbey of Santa Maria of Maniace, located near the village of Maniace on the foothills of Mount Etna. From 1799 it was the seat of the Dukes of Bronte, a title granted to Admiral Horatio Nelson; the estate remained a ducal seat until the late 20th century.

Long, two-storey rectangular manor with a pale, weathered stone/stucco facade and regularly spaced rectangular windows set in grey stone surrounds; a central arched doorway below a small stone balcony with wrought-iron railing; a low tiled roof with a line of squat stone chimneys/pinnacles along the ridge; building set directly behind a formal lawn and clipped hedges with large terracotta urns and mature trees, foothills of Mount Etna visible beyond.

The Castello di Maniace is a manor house built on the site of a former ancient monastery on the eastern foothills of Mount Etna, south of the village of Maniace and north of the town of Bronte. From 1799 to 1981 it was the seat of the Dukes of Bronte, English noblemen — the first of them Admiral Horatio Nelson, 1st Viscount Nelson, created Duke of Bronte in 1799 by King Ferdinand III of Sicily and Naples.
The dukedom descended through the daughter of William Nelson, 1st Earl Nelson — the admiral's elder brother and heir — into the Hood family. In 1981 Alexander Hood, 4th Viscount Bridport and 7th Duke of Bronte, sold the manor house and its large estate to the Commune of Bronte.
