Rocca Borromeo di Angera
Rocca Borromeo di Angera is a hilltop rocca overlooking the southern shore of Lago Maggiore at Angera, Italy. The complex grew around an early medieval keep and comprises four connected wings from different periods (including Visconti and Borromeo additions) enclosing an internal courtyard and a lakeside garden. It houses the Hall of Justice with medieval frescoes, ceremonial rooms, and historical service spaces, and remains in Borromeo ownership today.

The shape it held in its prime.
A compact hilltop fortress of pale squared local stone with terracotta-tiled roofs; a tall square keep with a low hipped roof and narrow slit windows anchors the west end. Three linked wings of differing stone texture form a continuous roofline punctuated by mullioned windows, simple narrow ground-floor openings and small corner towers. A curtain wall with corner turrets runs toward the cliff and the lake, enclosing a terraced medieval garden and an internal paved courtyard.
